What was FU doing to Geoffrey when he told him to come nearer... nearer before bringing out the resignation letter??

But why was he looking for his heart? I thought that was really creepy.

If I remember correctly, Sooty was about to jump off the sinking ship and that moment was about as close as FU would ever get to 'begging' someone to stick with him. I think immediately after that he somehow blackmails Jeffrey to stay on anyway because of a resignation letter Jeffrey had written, signed, but not dated, sometime earlier that FU had saved until precisely the right moment to keep him in line.
