Squigglevision

This is one of my favorite animated visual styles, especially in this and the first season of home movies. It's very lively, every line dances and looks active even if it's an inanimate object. It's the visual equivalent to a warm fuzzy feeling if that makes any sense. It's unfortunate that home movies dropped the style.

it is called boiling. Something that animators try to avoid most of the time. When chosen as a style it takes a lot of the pressure of for the animator I guess. He doesn't have to constantly pay attention to tracing the previous frame exactly.

I got used to it, but I initially found it quite distracting. I never did really like it on Dr. Katz or Home Movies. Were these the only shows that ever used it? There's a Canadian animated short called 'The Cat Came Back' that sort of has this effect, but it's more fully-animated than Dr. Katz or Home Movies, so I don't know if it qualifies as 'squigglevision.'
