Honest to God, I had A small part in this mini series

Cinemajunkie
I live here in Portland. I was the guy who made the pass at Annette O'Toole
in the Bar Sceen. It was filmed in the White Eagle Tavern.
There were two of us. I'm the one with the shaved head, who she screams to "back off" in the White Eagle Tavern.
When she walks in the door, I start following her, then I stop and inhale a cigaret. I suck as a smoker, it looks horiable.
Then after, she throws a drink in anothre guys lap. I come up and say "HEY PRETTY" and she yells "Back off".
Are there any other actors, out there from the film ?

Once in awhile, I would bump into the other guy (who Annette, threw a drink in his lap) at The Hawthorn Fred Meyer Store (here in Portland).
Last I saw him, he was with his wife and new born baby. Nice guy, a local Martial arts instructor (make note of this stalkers). HA HA HA !

I heard the White Eagle Tavern is haunted.

suposedly it is Haunted. Every Halloween the Oregonian does ghost stories about it.
The tavern is also conected to the old Shanghi tunels, And the up stairs is an old brothel. It all sounds very scary together.
When we were shooting the sceen for DBS, the owner was there. He was an old guy with a really bad toupe. His girl friend was an older lady with long Blond hair. You might see her danicing in the bar sceen. Once agian She had long blond hair.
She told me that the entrance to the old tunnel is in the basement, and its all blocked off. Not much to see. Alot of old buildings in downtown Portland, have blocked off, old shanghi tunnel entrances in there basements.
There is even a tour you can take of them.
The ones in China Town are rumored to be connected to old opion Dens. Get a guy when he is trying to relax and enjoy a little guilty pleasure.
As far as the Ghost in the White Eagle Tavern. Well Between the Whore House upstairs and the Shanghi Tunnel in the basement. You can only imagine what his story could be.
I seem to remember reading in the Halloween newspaper article dedicated to the White Eagle Tavern. The standard ghost compliants, makes noises at night, opens cupboards, etc.

Steveicm:

You were brilliant! :-))

How was it to work with Annette O'Toole? Did you get any face time with her and Ken Olen??

Are you union?

How exciting!

Thanks, where did you see this ? I have a beat up copy of Dead Buy Sunset on vhs. I'm going to transfer it to DVD, soon. Do you know if it has aired recently ?
I was actualy very nervious when they shot that sceen (my first ever big moment in the spot light, with a famous actress). Nothing short of scared to death, but it was a blast !!
As you can see, I'm not a smoker and I don't fake it well. The director was very kind and fun to work with, she walked me through the sceen.
that particular sceen was orignaly cast for a cowboy bar, but I walked in with my head freshly shaved (just returned from Guatemala) and the director thought I looked strange enough (this was 93, shaved heads weren't in style yet) So she made it into a biker bar. And me some kind of leather guy.
They had the make up guy, draw fake Tatoo's all over me, etc.
However, if you look you will still see people dancing around dressed liked cowboys, and hypstir's, etc. There is even a guy in a tweed jacket dressed like an intelectual.
Also you will notice, the guy who Annette throws a drink in his lap (right before I make a pass at her) is dressed like a cowboy. That bar is having a real identity crisis.
Annette O'Toole was a really kind person to work with, she was very down to earth and friendly. In real life she is kind of a small woman and she isn't as busty as the camera makes here look.
I remember we were hanging out in the trailor before the sceen (some grips, the make up artist, Annette, and myself) the radio was on and the song "Leaving Las Vegas" was playing, by Cherl Crow.
Of course, Cherl was singing repeatedly the verse, "I'm leaving Las Vegas". Over and Over, agian and agian.
All of sudden Annette stould up, and screamed at the radio. "All right girl, we get it. Your Leaving Las Vegas !!!". Then Annette changed the radio station (I thought that was pretty amusing). I laughed and agreed with Annette, that Cherl Crow is a real bore !!
I got to chit chat, with Ken Olen, when they were drawing on my tatoo's in the dressing room. Ken had a great sense of humor. And was a pretty funny guy.
Susan was kind of stand offish and hard to draw into a conversation.
To answer your question, No I'm not a union actor. In fact, that sceen and a few other small things, conclude my acting carear.
The way I came to get that part was, I happend to know a woman, who casted extra's into films (this was back in the early to mid 90's, a lot of films were being shot, here in Portland). I got real lucky, The director liked the way I looked, and she had a big part to fill. It was a quite an expierence and I am very happy, I got the chance to be a part of this NBC mini series.
Thanks for your enthusiam and complements. I'm very glad that you enjoyed my 15 minutes of fame.
Sincerly
Steve the Leather Guy.

P.S. Alot of those bikers in that sceen, showed up with a good buzz. A couple of them were really drunk.
There is one big guy, with grey hair. (You'll see him later in the sceen, after I see Annette walk into the bar and start to follow her). He is talking to the other biker guy ( the one with the beard) whom I was orignaly speaking to when the sceen begin. If you can follow all that.
Anyway that guy was huge, very beligerant and seriously smashed !! I made sure to stay out of his way and on his good side !!!!
Thanks agian, glad you enjoyed it.

Wow! How fun! I LOVE to hear the 'behind the scenes' experiences!
Dead before Sunset is on right now on Encore Myseries. That is the only place I ever see it.

I wish I had have read your reply b4 watching it so that I could have watched for the subtle blocking you were telling me about. I'm going to have to see when it'll be showing again and this time around I'll record it.

It isn't funny how when you meet an actor or model in person how different they look in stature? For instance, there is a model by the name of Gail O'Neil who was all over the place in the 90's. Well, I was so shocked to see that she wasn't nearly as tall as she appeared to be on t.v. and in print.
Always interesting.

Well, I'm going to hop off and finish watching this tragic yet wonderful movie!

Be well!

I read your message after that scene was on as I was reading this halfway through the movie. It has been on several times this month and will probably be on again. I will keep an eye out for it and let you know as far ahead of time as possible when I see it airing. Plus, I will even watch it again and let you know what I think about your part. I do remember the bar scene from a previous viewing but not the specifics.

Hello it's Steve again, here is PROOF that i am who i say i am in Dead by Sunset. These are photos of the tattoos they drew on me for my part. They tried to make them look like white trash prison tattoos, I am nothing like this in real life, but the shoot was fun. It was my 15 minutes of fame, and I was glad i did it.See link below for the photos
