Just rented DVD

I just finished watching this 1995 movie with Brendan Coyle, a favorite of mine. It is a very good movie. I am going to see if it can't still be purchased. It's a keeper for my taste.

Just finished watching it myself. Wasn't convinced by the casting of Emily (my, what big eyes you have)Mortimer as Annabella, but she grew on me by the end. Coyle, who bears a youthful resemblance to Russell Crowe, is excellent as the absurdly named Manuel Mendoza.

Hi Laura, Genie and Jason!

I have recently watched the movie and am now reading the book. I loved the film since I have become a Brendan Coyle fan ever since watching North and South.

I agree with the reviewer on the home page that Coyle is a natural in this role and is very sexy, Laura.

Jason, his absurd name is explained in the film: he just adopted it because he liked the sound of it, and because he felt he could change his destiny with a new name.

I haven't gotten to that part in the book yet, but his physical description in the book is that he is swarthy and definitely looks like a 'foreigner'. Perhaps it is his true name in the book, and they had to change the story a bit in the DVD, since Coyle does not look Spanish, but rather, Irish, in my opinion!

I wonder if anyone will read this? It's been years since anyone posted here...

Thanks!

Hey, you girls look familiar!

I just watched this movie and I loved it! But I really liked Emily in this movie, I thought she was adorable. I have just started the book and I love Catherine Cookson so much.

I've heard it both ways

Hi Mezo!!! I just happened to peek in here and said the same thing!

Wasn't TGV a wonderful adaptation of Cookson's book? Have you read others? I have not read any others, and there are so many! Must get started! I purchases the second set of the Catherine Cookson dvd collection, containing: "The Dwelling Place", "The Gambling Man", "The Glass Virgin", and "The Man Who Cried", all interesting, but I love TGV the most, since I'm a die hard BC fan! Good to see you again, Mezo!
