LIev Schreiber as Ogden

This is one loooonnng movie.
As far as the main character goes I'd say this is a very flawed film. Calamity is either very though or over the top girly/insecure. Something I found unbelievable and annoying to watch.

The character of Dora DuFan is a more layered one. I can understand her actions and loved what Melanie did with the character. I found myself looking forward to her scenes. The dramatic romance with Blue is spectacular! They really have chemistry!

Now for my subject: he comes in only after about 1 1/2 hours. Ogden is cute and polite and ..well... childlike. He's not stupid, but obviously hasn't seen much yet. Liev does a great job! The character of Ogden is a background character cause the focus stays on Dora and Blue. I really felt for Ogden at the end of the movie. In a way he really got the short end of the stick!

If you're a Liev fan: go watch this. He's fun!

One long movie made obsolete by 'Deadwood'. I like Liev - hell, I like all the actors in this one - but it didn't work for me for a number of reasons. I thought 'Deadwood' was a little too gritty, but Buffalo Girls is much too polished and polite.

I actually liked the way the characters were played bc while there was this rough nature & wisdom of survival - I think people were very emotionally immature - there was no such thing as 'therapy' or 'closure' - people had a certain sort of childish 'immediate' reaction to situations & circumstances -

It is also true of all human beings - whatever age you are when emotionally traumatized is the age you're sorta stuck at all your life until you face it and deal with it . . . but it seems like in those days (lol and today too), white people were not as savvy to their demons . . .
