Great Storyline!!

I am watching this mini series for the first time since it first came out in 1995. Man, I have changed in the last 9 years since the first time I saw it at the age of 15!! :) I love this series and the best acting is by Carla Gugino, Mira Sorvino, and Guy Wise in my opinion!!! I bought it off of ebay since it is so hard to find it elsewhere, especially at a reasonable price! Anyone else watched it recently? I am still in part one right now, when Virginia finds out her husband married her for her money!! How awful!

You're right in saying that this is a great mini series. I have watched it several times and am waiting patiently and impatiently for it to be released on DVD.

Whilst I know that Edith Wharton didn't finish the novel, I am amazed that she wrote of Ginny's upset of Seadown's marrying her for her money. Really she married him for status. The very reason the girls went to London was for a London season, so that they would be invited to the more select gatherings back in New York. Status was everything. I don't think that Ginny would've even thought of turning him down anyway. She must have had an inkling of the truth.

I was surprised that the writers had Nan run away. I guess that this would've been unthinkable for her. I would've thought that she would've done more to try to fit in or even try to change things. Ushant was weak in general and I feel that she could've used that to her advantage. I was also disappointed that she didn't assist Ushant's sister to elope with Mr Wallace (it's in the book, how Ushant/Julius sent him packing when he asked for her hand), especially when he said that at 29 she was too old to marry!!

Brilliant book, tremendous adaptation. Bring on the DVD release!
