The ending

This bothered me. I thought it would end with the buccaneers at least saying goodbye or keeping in touch, but it turns out Conchita was Nan's only real friend besides her governess. Sad, really. Virginia was her own sister! I felt sorry for her being stuck in a loveless marriage until the very end. They turned their backs on her in order to keep in line with their husbands and pathetic marriages. I would have liked the last scene to be Nan with her new husband and baby, and some lasting happiness for the governess Miss Testvalley.
