When did Nickelodeon begin to lose its shine?

For me, it would have started somewhere around 1999 or 2000 when they started becoming more teenybopper oriented, when they started with showing clips of pop music videos after the end of every show and airing teen dramas. Gradually, over the years, there became less shows that interested me. I stopped watching Nick completely in mid 2005, after Upick live ended, because that's when they aired all the good shows and once in a while shows from the 90s. This is when they started airing less good cartoons and more teen oriented crap like zoey 101. Also, at that point, I was 15 and I considered myself pretty much to old to watch nick, not that anything good came on after that anyway.

I honestly think it's to each their own with this, I loved Nickelodeon in the '90s, All That and Kenan & Kel were the greatest but to some people 2001-2006 was prime also, I loved to watch The Amanda Show, The Brother's Garcia, I think Dan Schneider has always made something for a not too kiddish but perfect family audience, such as with Drake & Josh and more recently iCarly and Victorious. There's a reason why his shows are so successful and that's because they transcend audiences and make everyone laugh. I don't think his shows ever lost their shine and they're the only reason Nickelodeon continues to grab big audiences.

Schneider is good, but he's not the only reason Nick still draws an audience; the two Avatar series are amazing.

2003, IMO. That's when Nick aired their last episodes of the last good shows on there (Rugrats, Cousin Skeeter, Hey Arnold, etc.) and replaced them with bad shows like My Life as a Teenage Robot and Unfabulous.
