is anything being done to bring aeon back?

mtv sucks. they shouldn't have cancelled aeon. this show is a trip.

reply

They've been working on a live-action movie of it at paramount pictures for years now.

reply

Yeah, and look how that turned out.

reply

What a trip this animation is!

I simply cannot wait any longer for more animated episodes or a live-action movie.

I just finished reading the user comment, and god, what an uncultured idiot. Aeon Flux had superb nimation, nd a great story. Do we see any aimaion like tis now? Not in the US, but all the great animated moviescome from Japan now. The last I saw Petr Cung do an animated flick was in The Animatrix, ad I'm sorry, it kind of annoyed me a bit >_<. But the storywas simple, a futuristic world cut in half by a large berlin wall type structure. And no, the show wasn't really cancelled per se, it wa actually finished. The last episode gave me an "awww not far," reaction. I won't tell you if you don't know.

I think it is unfortunate that such visionaries like Peter Chung and William Gibson, who were such pioneers in their own genres of sci-fi are now being crippled because of the Matrix Trilogy and the Animatrix. Gibson and Chung have had a large yet not so vocal following and it is a pity that one Hollywood movie is now used as the benchmark for sci-fi. I think if Aeon Flux were to come back, too many mainstream audiences would be comparing it to the Matrix despite the fact that Aeon Flux has been in existence for much longer. This is also a problem with William Gibson fiction. It is a pity that so much content is "borrowed" from such sources with barely any recognition or credit, then what was the originator is swallowed up as being only a reflection of its offspring. I think it would be hard for Aeon Flux to gain new fans, but I think the loyalty of its current fan base would still help Chung to a moderate degree of success.

reply

Crazed, didn't Peter Chung actually direct an episode of the Animatrix?

reply

Chung did in fact direct an episode of Animatrix (the last episode and it was a spontaneous choice for the Wachowski brothers, aparently). I only meant to emphasise my opinion that I think many people, previously unexposed to Chung's work (be it Aeon Flux or Liquid Television) may see the Animatrix and meerly believe it to be an offshoot of the Matrix juggernaut. I highly enjoyed the Matrix movies however I wonder what the reaction would be now if Aeon Flux came back to television? Would people say "It's that Animatrix guy's stuff!" or would people take it on its own merits. I remember first seeing Aeon Flux maybe nine years ago and thinking "WOW!". Now the strange sci-fi that Chung pioneered is in a lot more movies, animation etc (by the way, I thoroughly enjoy anime as well and I concede that many cool ideas came from here as well). I only hope that people recognise his ideas and originality and hope that they don't use the Matrix as a means of judging it. I look forward to the day Aeon Flux returns, and should it build in popularity, I hope people appreciate where and when it came from.

reply

not only that but the matrix is horrible crap. as opposed to aeon, which is actually well thought out and directed competently. i can't say about the animatrix since i haven't seen any of it, but the movies are awful crap that was made to feed the masses.

I actually wasn't disappointed by the Matrix as I was hoping that they would be more based on the books by William Gibson. Gibson wrote Johnny Mnemonic and originally it was only about 22 pages long. Hollywood tried to make a 2 hour movie out of it. I think this may have been a little too ambitious. When I saw the Matrix preview for the first movie, I thought that Hollywood was going to try to pick up where they left off, basing the movie on Gibson's Neuromancer (there were rumours about ten years ago that it was to be made into a motion picture). When I saw it, it was a let down for me that they didn't persue the original story and instead have altered a lot of the content whilst still keeping a few ideas and themes. Because of this original set back, I have never expected much out of the Matrix. If you want a really good read, with plenty of originality that many people believe was a pioneer in Sci-Fi, I recommend reading Neuromancer. For something that was written twenty years ago, it was well ahead of its time. Again this brings me back to my comment on how it would be great if such brilliant visionaries (such as Gibson and Chung) who have come up with so much interesting and original material received a little more recognition.

matrix wasnt that bad, they brought up some good points... i think the only problem with it was some of cheese factor... some parts were horrendously dumb... (although one thing that is that latter that i loved was the meruvingian)... also didnt u notice the extreme amount of biblical allusion... ZION for example... nebuchandezzar... trinity... the one (as in a sort of messiah)... the meruvingian (although thats in connection with the rumor that the meruvingian kings were from the bloodline of Jesus)... etc... so it wasnt completely unthought about... and the action was nice... but i must say i do agree with you that the masses will go with whatever starts to become popular... like the horrendous harry potter... i still have trouble figuring out why young and old like it.

back to aeon.. it is better than matrix... and i personally liked it more.. so yes i agree with you fydiousmckormick to some extent

Hey imbecile you should learn how to read, especially in context. The guy was saying he can't wait anymore as in not having the patience to wait for new episodes and the movie for Aeon Flux. Go back to school.

I sure wish it was so.

IMO, I don't think that anything is being done to bring Aeon Flux back to the air. MTV sucks 100%. I mean MTV was a real serious problem & that is that MTV doesn't show reruns of their older shows. Reruns of shows like Aeon Flux, Liquid Television, et al haven't had reruns shown in several years. I do know that Aeon Flux has a DVD but it is out of print & selling for lots of money. The problem with the Aeon Flux DVD is that it is just a best of disc. I want to see all of the Aeon Flux episodes put onto DVD.

In fact, I run a petition (since 2001) to convince MTV to release Aeon Flux, Liquid Television, et al onto DVD espically in season format because it sucks that these shows are shown in reruns.

The petition is located at http://www.petitiononline.com/MTVDVD/

after the movie is released i think they will bring it back to life

reply

The ONLY good that could come from the movie, is a potensial resurgence of interest in the animated AF. Which could mean more episodes.

Sometimes on MTV2 there are "Toon Festivals" and they play Aeon Flux, Beavis and Butthead, etc. There are some people that sell bootlegs of Cartoon Sushi and Liquid TV on Ebay and stuff.

I wish they would play the Maxx though, that was definitley an awesome cartoon.

You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake.

reply

If you like The Maxx, you should read the comic. The issues are slightly difficult to get a hold of, but Sam Kieth, the creator, has been putting them out now in graphic novels. The series is based on his work, and I think he worked directly with the series. There will be six graphic novels, and they've released two so far, about one every three months or so.

Aeon Flux was THE coolest show on MTV when it came out, and Liquid Television was pretty damn cool, too. What has happened to MTV? I have no idea why I'm asking that. The "M" should stand for "miscellaneous" since the only music they play is on that dumbass show TRL. I guess that's why they have to have all those spinoff channels (MTV2, MTV Jams, MTV Hits)-they're too busy playing all that b.s. on the original MTV. They haven't been tolerable since about...oh...1995, and I feel that I'm being VERY generous with that date.

But anyway, Aeon Flux was the coolest.
