Question about the Oil Puddle in 'War'

Can anyone clarify the meaning of the puddle of oil on the floor near the close and at the end of the episode? I didn't get it, unless there's nothing to it.

reply

Notice how every all the heros in War dies. Aeon gets shot, the breen soldier gets stabbed and the monican swordsman is latter killed by a Breen female soldier. The episode suggests that the Breen female and her lover will end up dead as well as they are running towards the oil patch.

Episodes in seasons 1 and 2 are all filled with ironic deaths. The invincible hero having an unpoetic end.

Thanks much for the reply. I'm not sure if the oil puddle would somehow cause their deaths or if there was some other hidden meaning. For example, the phrase "a drop in the bucket" could apply here, such as the efforts of all the fighters basically amounted to a drop in the bucket.

In any case, it's a great episode. Thanks again.

I think the assumption is that they will slip on the drop of oil as each of the deaths is caused by an unfortunate mishap, a weapon misfiring etc...which is beyond the control of the hero.

reply

It IS because something will happen to them (try getting the version with commentaries on it :)

My apologies for the late reply. I realize that it's been almost 10 years so if you've already found an answer then please disregard. Anyway here goes:

IIRC; the gate was controlled by hydraulics; hence the significance of the dripping oil. So my guess is either the gate will be closed by the time they reach it, or worse; the gate will shut at the very moment that they cross, crushing them to death (given Aeon's unlucky fate at the end of each episode, I'm inclined to believe the latter.....)
