I don't get it. What was this show about?

What was this show about? I only saw the 'Liquid Television' episodes in the 90's, they did not make much sense to me? Anyone care to explain?

What a lazy question. Go watch the 30 min episodes.

Well, the first explanation of the plot I ever came across was in te short-lived magazine Wild Cartoon Kingdom. The nation of Breen is being riddled with a strange plague, which Trevor Goodchild is studying. Meanwhile, Aeon Flux, an agent of Monica, is hunting for the ruler/leader of Breen (the guy in the photo). He's already dead by the time she catches up to him and she dies after falling off a ledge. Goodchild finds a cure for the plague and becomes a hero. The second season is just single episodes of Aeon on various missions, all of which end with her death (death is a major theme in the whole thing). It's left to interpretation as to whether Aeon is reborn, is a clone, a parallel world, or if it's just a conceit of the show.

The regular series gets more into her duels with Trevor and other forces. Essentially, Aeon and Monica represent anarchy (in the political sense) and free will, while Trevor and Breen represent control and order. Both sides are shown to be the extreme and neither is presented as better than the other; just opposite.

Other than that, it's a skinny chick in a fetish uniform killing people, while some suave guy in an overcoat speaks philosophically. In many ways, it was the Matrix, before the Wachowskis.

Very nice comparison.

I suppose Aeon Flux and the Matrix do not have a monopoly on dense metaphors dealing with control, but that is a great analogy.

Aaaannnnnd VERY well done sir...... Excellent.

I know I'm responding to an older thread.

While taking time off this week for the holidays, I found and watched my old DVD set. I had forgotten I have it. This peaked my interest and I came to this site.

I remember watching the original Liquid TV episodes and thinking what a quirky, smart and funny show it was even back in the crazy 90's.

When I received the DVD set as a gift years ago, I remember seeing so much in each episode that I missed the first time around.

After watching it all again this week, I still found new things.

Also can't believe this show is pretty well 25 years old now.

Guess she didn't like the cornbread either.

It's more about ideas and unique sci-fi concepts than telling any coherent story.
