I record and collect two things on tape: live musical performances and stand up comedy from tv shows and cable. I've got dozens of tapes of every kind of comedian from Margaret Cho to Bernie Mac. But this is by far one of the most disappointing performances Ive ever seen. For one, Lawrence is more of a comic actor than a stand up. He spends too much time getting into his characters than actually setting up the jokes. When he had a tv show, the best parts were always where he portrayed his mother, Mrs. Payne, Shanaynay and Jerome the Player. Those characters were the highlights of the show. As talented as he is, here he lowers himself to performing base sex and pot jokes for the majority of this stand-up.

In other words, Martin Lawrence isn't all that talented. The proof is in the pudding, and this pudding tastes bad. You so bad Martin.
Lawrence is very talented. One of the most talented comedians to come along in years. He influenced a generation of comedians and is a pioneer for his era of comedy. But his strength lies more in performance acting than straight stand up comedy. He's also responsible for discovering alot of talent among them, Dave Chappelle and Tracy Morgan.
