Anyone know if this film has been made into a DVD? I have the Hong Kong VCD version, which I'm told has been out of print for years. I would love to get my hands on a high-quality version, if not a critical edition. I've seen two of the deleted scenes. One features Monkey fighting with some Western soldiers in his dreams--note the Western names in the credits. I can't remember the other.
Anyway, if anyone has information about this great film, please share it.

Are you sure this film has been suppressed by the government? I read just yesterday on some Chinese news websites that at the 10th anniversary of the movie's release, Jiang Wen got requests from fans asking him to release a critical edition on DVD. Jiang Wen said he liked the idea, but had just been too busy to produce it.

I'm not sure if you are from Hong Kong. But I once saw a DVD of this film, which was imported from Japan, avaiable in the Broadway Cinematheque. I bought this version when I went to Japan this summer. Very high quality.
