Not saying John de Lancie is a bad actor. He is a very good actor is just that soon as he appeared on the screen it kind of ruined the film for me. I seen him Star Trek TNG before this film was released.

They should of used complete unknowns for this and or real news casters.
I read somewhere that this may have been deliberate. Just like casting Jane Kaczmerick as Dr. Jaffe who was well known for her work as well (and probably more recognizable to network audiences than deLancie). The network knew it could have a panic like that of Orson Welles' War of the Worlds or the minor panic that accompanied Special Bulletin, so they dropped in a few well known actors like those two to make it appear more obvious that this was a simulation.
