I was watching earlier today when it came on TBS but I had to go to work at 9...I got as far as the part with her kids not being there when she returned...actually I got to the part where she got threatened in her room, when the guys came in and threatened her with a gun. Now... can someone please explain what happened...well, why were they so out to ruin her life? That's the impression I got. I'm very confused, any help would be appreciated!

I missed the very beginning and tuned in when the guy in the bar was trying to get her to give him sexual favors for money. It was a contentious dialog. I can't say for sure, but I think he may have been one of the men who was later involved in the removal of her children.
Anyway, the impression I had was that there was an illegal adoption ring that went on, going all the way up to a female judge. They were selling children for money it seems. Because Vanessa was blocked at every turn and no records seemed to exist, it was pretty clear that many people and agencies were involved in the scheme and subsequent cover up.
I was disappointed when I searched on the web to try and find something about the real life woman and found nothing - nor did I find anything about the scandal in general. I was hoping she got a ton of money from the State of Georgia or from selling the rights to her story - she sure deserved a hefty compensation.
