Where did Robert go?
When she called and his message said he'd be out of town and gone for some time. I'm sure there's some obvious meaning but I don't get it. And what was the significance of the scene with his painting?
shareI just watched the movie, and I was wondering the same thing. Was Robert really Freddy, and not an actor... somehow? Or did Freddy kill him off screen? It could be that he needed to use his body to get to the real world, but Wes said that Heather was the 'gateway'.

The gateway, her fear, giving him power. Freddy took him over and Robert Englund was no more. Its like Heather all of a sudden becoming Nancy
shareThis is pretty much the right answer. As the demon known as "Freddy" kept getting stronger and more powerful, the real Freddy or in this case, Robert Englund ceased to exist and vanished as though he were never even born.
