Not nearly as bad as I remember it.

I saw this in the theaters when I was 12. I was really upset about John Candy's death so I guess I had high expectations for the movie and I hated it then. But I watched it the other day and just loved it! What a great cast of character actors. Still breaks my heart to watch, though.

Yeah, I think the movie did unduely poorly because people were just too sad about his death to watch him in a funny movie. Sad.

Proud Rumrunner!
I'm too indecisive to decide on a signature.

Truly Bad Cinema. The fact John Candy stars in it is a give-away.

reply

You know, I haven't seen the movie - I avoided it because most people say it sucks - but that was a mean comment to make. Candy was a fine character actor, and he brought a breath of fresh air to the films he starred in, even if the films themselves were not a success at the box office, at least Candy was good in them.

reply

I agree -- he really was a warm character actor and evidently loved by those who knew him. And the movie is really not bad at all - incredible cast of character actors and much more watchable the second time -- just expect too much or too little the first time -- or too sad about Candy.

Gee Madnotangry, have you been a pompous ass your whole life or just recently. John Candy was, for me, one of the funniest actors in Hollywood and with John Hughes passing away I am very sad again because we are losing so many people who made the '80s so much more enjoyable. That was the decade I graduated from High school, married my high school sweetheart and started my family. Now I look back and see my marriage of 26 years, I just walked my oldest down the aisle and buried my mother a year ago and think, were is John Candy now when I could really use a laugh?

how can you marry your mother if she's already dead?

reply

Agreed. Not as bad as once remembered. I didn't see in the theaters; it was years later on DVD.

So: a realistic, down to earth show..which is completely off the wall swarming with magic robots?!
