What happened to the theatre?

At first, I thought that someone should restore it to its former glory, as you sometimes see happen. But then as the film/play went on, I found myself more and more appreciating the "ruined" nature of the environment, and had the bizarre thought that it should be preserved, just as it is. Not torn down, not restored, but prevented from further decay. Of course, something like that would never happen, but I would love the chance to experience that space myself, just as it looked there and then.

(Given that it has been 20 years, I'm assuming there's some Trump building or something there now.)

The New Amsterdam Theatre, now restored, is home to Broadway's "Aladdin."
