what do russians think of this

as a us american, i found this movie quite extraordinarily affecting

the visual beauty, the complex and, with one exception, lovable characters, the cat-and-mouse, all of it. even the villain had his charms.

it was like a pushkin domestic novel with raskalnikov and the police inspector beetling around in the attic.

was this also considered a great film in russia itself? i talked with one expat who didnt seem to share my enthusiasm, i think his take was that the politics werent realistic, for reasons not clear to me.

in a world where everyone has an opinion on everything, you get a lot of bad opinions - me

in a world in which noone is allowed to have an opinion, you get just one opinion
and this one is just bad. the chance of getting a good opinion is zero - me
