Watching it again, I'm glad they cut that ending

It's been a long time since I've seen this mnovie, and watching it again, I can't help but feel glad they cut that ending. Sure, it would've been a comedic moment in the film, but overall it would've been a depressing ending. Learning that the guy did so much only to become blind and retarded would've been really sad. It would've been different then the entire tone of the movie, I think.

Agree, I showed this movie to my friends and the copy I bought didnt showed it and I'm glad because I wish I watched the edit version. I was young and sad that he became Blind/Mentally Ill..

It was an action comedy, not to be taken seriously. You can say the comedy is in bad taste (e.g. retards are funny) but still - not to be taken seriously.

That ending scene was there in the original to show the dangers of drinking too much alcohol.

There is a similar ending in Police Story on either the Thai or Taiwan version showing Jackie going off to jail, meaning that you cant escape the law which was cut on the international release.

The original ending was made to show only that overkill drinking is bad for you. Nothing else. And of course the american version was cut so it wouldnt influence ppl to stop buying alcohol.

thus keeping drinking Americans blind and retarded.

I didn't even know that the version I just watched had an edited ending until I came here. I too am glad it was cut out.

That ending is so bizarre and tasteless; I'm ok for dark humor, but the tone is so drastically different. I understand it's sort of lost in translation of what oriental comedy is about (and the timing is very different), but it sort of "kills" the protagonist just for the sake of a bad taste joke.
