Rosemary Harris in this movie

The portrayal of the mother in this movie is one of the most beautiful & selfless I've ever seen. It's very moving. Rosemary Harris is a great actress, & should have won the best supporting actress Oscar that year (she was nominated).

Miranda Richardson was also good & should have won the best actress Oscar.

Miranda should deff have won.

Disagree.

I loved Tom & Viv but there is no way that Miranda Richardson was better than Jessica Lange (Blue Sky). Nor was Rosemary Harris better than Diane Wiest (Bullets over Broadway). Miranda was great, kooky and unbalanced. Rosemary Harris was alright. Nothing to write home about though.

I was thrilled when Jessica Lange won.She was brilliant in Blue Sky.I loved Miranda Richardson in Tom & Viv too. Interesting that they are similar roles but Lange was warmer and felt stronger that year. Richardson should have won an Oscar for Dance with a Stranger, a film she wasn't even nominated for.

I think both Richardson and Harris gave outstanding perfs in the movie, and I was pleased they were both nominated. Anyway I've always had the impression TOM & VIV is a mediocre film, so I'm not very eager to complain if the two ladies didn't score the golden boy at last!

Lange was actually lead so there was never any competition between her and Rosemary Harris, who was supporting. She was so wonderful in Tom and Viv and I feel she was better than the winner but you know, her nomination is great especially when you consider that it was such a surprise (no preceding G.G or SAG nod).
