Because it's an obnoxious Disney rip-off with huge plot holes, annoying characters, and confused morals! Sure, I liked it when I was little, but I think it was MEANT for little kids!

Personally, I think it deserves something lower...

You're right, it's waaaaaaaaay too high. Take off your damn nostalgia goggles, really listen to the dialogue and compare it to anything that's actually good.

The reasons (in no particular order):

* Thumbelina is an idiot with a grating personality
* The love story is inane
* The songs range from unmemorable to painfully awful
* The art direction and design of everything is infantile
* The story is a meandering mess
* That freaking bird is practically as annoying and useless as Jar Jar Binks

I hope that helps to clear up the confusion, OP.

Most superhero movies suck, but the good ones put other blockbusters to shame.

That bird is a walking plot hole, but I thought the art direction and the animation was the only thing good about it(it is Don Bluth after-all) along with Jodi doing a fine job.

you can say that for almost any animated movie but I dont see you guys over on the boards for BATB or Aladdin or TLM or The Lion King or whatever. No film animated or otherwise, kid's movie or otherwise, is perfect.

Objectively, 5.8 is a pretty generous rating for this one. I think people have been voting nostalgically.

^ I agree. As far as Don Bluth films go, I was disappointed that this film didn't hold up as well as most of his other works (The Secret of NIMH, The Land Before Time, All Dogs go to Heaven, An American Tail, Anastasia)

Let the storm rage on, the cold never bothered me anyway...
