Animation style for Thumbelina....

I grew up on Don Bluth films and have seen most of them many times, but until tonight I hadn't ever watched Thumbelina. I was immediately taken by the character design because, not only is it varied, but oftentimes it looks like the cartoons of the 1930's. I thought that was kinda cool, since Don Bluth characters--though quite distinct compared to other animation studios--usually are of a familiar type. I found it interesting to see a little experimentation and perhaps, a bit of homage thrown in there.

Anyone else notice the touches with the older style? Thoughts?
