What's the point?

I mean, what's the point of taking an arcade, computer and console game, to turn into a movie (riding on the success of the game, so that you don't have to do anything original - why rack your imagination, when you can just lazily cash in on someone else's ingenuity?)..

.. if you are then going to make a generic action movie that has nothing to do with the game anyway?

What's the point? They might just as well have made ANY movie, and the result would have been the same.

What I am getting at is; who is the target audience?

The game fans? Why would they want to see their favorite game turn into a movie that has nothing to do with the game? Why would THEY go see a movie that has nothing in common with the game, except the title and the names?

New audiences? Why would they care about 'Street Fighter' franchise, when they have no idea what that is, or why they should be interested? If they were not interested in the game, why would they care about a movie about the game?

Someone REALLY didn't think this through.

Either make a movie that caters to the generic audience, and doesn't try to draw in the players of a game to the theaters, or make an authentic, faithful movie-adaptation of the game.

Not 'half-arsed-neither', please.

Because there's no point.

The fans are going to be angry at the mutilation and perversion of the original game into something unrecognizable (except from the clichés and generic crap that it became), and not flock to see it.

Non-fans won't care about the title, so they won't flock to see it. To them, it just sounds like some bad Sonny Chiba movie (I really hope my memory is wrong about the possibly irony of this statement), and they will avoid it as well. So there's no reason to name it 'Street Fighter'.

What were they thinking? This question is more and more prevalent, especially when it comes to movies these days.

I thought this was still a fun movie,I give it a 6. If you want a proper adaption of Street fighter watch Street Fighter Assassin's Fist on youtube, the guy that made that hopes to do a theatrical movie one day

I must become someone else. I must become something else.
