You are correct, its Ree-yoo, I believe Vandamme is the only one to pronounce it correctly, I think just once towards the end.
shareRigh-You always sounded a lot better.
share*beep* I have been pronouncing it that way for years
Rye-yoo rolls off the tongue easier for most people I guess.
shareFor those who are not familiar with the anime (and that's the majority of the people), just looking at the word "Ryu", they will pronounce it as "Rai -Yoo".
Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!
I'm surprised that so many people call him Rye-You? I mean, has nobody of you ever played "Super Street Fighter II" or "Super Street Fighter II Turbo" in two player mode?

Addition:
Or, well, played any "Street Fighter" game? Have you ever seen the Dragon Punch? When he does it, he surely doesn't say "Sho-Rye-you-Ken".
I always thought it was Rye- you when i was a kid, when playing the game.
Now I hear it is actually Rhee-you
Before the anime, one of my brother's dumbass friends insisted it was "rue."

He's not an older guy. At the time, during the height of SF's popularity, he was a teenager.

Shouldn't it be "roo"?
The dragon punch in the game is "Sho Ryu Ken" pronounced "shoa roo ken"
