"THE STONED AGE" ABSOLUTELY DESTROYS "DAZED"!!!

I can't believe there are still foolish people out there that think "Dazed and Confused" is better than "The Stoned Age". You people must be dazed and confused yourselves. Go slap yourself out of it. "THE STONED AGE" IS THE GREATEST STONER MOVIE OF ALL TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

it's true, much better than Dazed in every way

reply

you cant even put stoned age in the same category with d&d. d&d= a classic with a "real"plot, stoned age=low budget nonsense

reply

d&d is a stupid nerd game. D&C would be a much better abbreviation for the Linklater classic.

reply

Dazed and Confused sucks.

reply

i rented the stoned age with high hopes beacayse people said its better then dazed and confused but when i watched i noticed this movie wasnt as good as dazed so i think dazed and confused is much more funnier and more original then the stoned age

reply

"much more funnier"? Don't you mean its betterer?

This is much better than Dazed.

reply

I agree.

reply

I could be wrong but check this: Wasn't this movie, regardless of whether it was better than Dazed and Confused or not, just made as a cash in on D and C's success? Or was it actually made before D and C? It gave me the impression that it was made afterwards as a film that would follow up on the success of such stoner movies. Though this movie probably won't ever sit beside Citizen Kane or the Godfather in the classics section, it's super funny and, ironically, eclipses dazed and confused in terms of hilarity! It didn't have enough weed in it though to live up to its title.

reply

Totally a cash-in.

reply

I can't agree. I absolutely love both of them. To me both movies are as important. And it is safe to say - that I've watched both of them more than 100 times.

43 years old and you still don't have a grasp on proper usage of punctuation. Maybe a little too much smokey-smokey during "the time period in these movies?"

reply

if the video box says "better than dazed and confused" i bet you its not, i knew it back in 93 and still to this day havent seen it; maybe one day....

obviously you are stoned if you consider this horrid film better than Dazed and Confused

reply

I've said it once and I'll say it again Dazed and Confused is how people remember that time period, The Stoned Age is how it actually happened. Maybe it's because I was a poor slum kid in a city rather than a midwest subburb. But the stoned age is closer to how I remmeber it. No one hung out at places, we found places to hang out (Like a parking lot, or parting at someone's house).

No body I knew had a cool car, unless they either had rich parents, a job which kept them so busy they had no social life, or were like Hankey fixing his own and also not having a social life.

I also think that The Stoned Age is deeper because the whole point is how pointless that time was to so many people. The original name of the movie was supposed to be "Teenage Waste Land", with Joe really being into the song Baba O'Riley. I think rightfully so.

This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It basically describes a day in my teen years. I was not around in the 70's but all my friends and I are almost exactly like Joe and Hubbs. I've seen this movie over a hundred times and it is far better than Dazed and Confused. I love all the great one-liners in it. "Hey d@mn Hankey, these ain't talls!" Classic!

What's the comparison? These are two different kinds of movies. Dazed is trying to be American Grafitti for the 70's, Stoned Age is a satire, a very funny movie that is actually smarter than a lot of the gags would have you believe. As for the question of whether or not it is a ripoff of Dazed, they were both made around the same time period, the difference being Dazed had a major studio to distribute it. It the Stoned Age had a major marketing machine behind it, it could've been a decent hit, I believe. Not Jurassic Park numbers, but just as much if not more than Dazed.

reply

They weren't nearly made around the same time; 'Stoned Age' came out after 'Dazed' cleaned up in the video rental market. It was a weak copy TOTALLY AND ONLY made to exploit the same kind of audience that 'Dazed' drew, and failed horribly. Yeah it was funny, yet in a corn-ball, lowest-denominator style. Dazed and Confused WAS NOT backed a major studio in the Marketing Area. It had almost no marketing while it was in theatres. It was on video that it became the giant it was. 'Stoned Age' COULD NEVER do the numbers that 'Dazed' did, not in a million years. And one of the biggest reasons is.......? Too many people that saw it felt it was just a cheap rip-off of 'Dazed & Confused'. The verdict was in 10 years ago, I don't know how this can even be debated. 'Stoned Age' was a generally a more deliberatly comedic movie, but that was it's purpose. It was outright comedic. 'Dazed' was artsy movie that had characters you could laugh at, without them spouting jokes off at you. 'Dazed' was about every type of teen from grade 8 to the grads, in a small Texas town. 'Stoned Age' was about the trash kids in some northern town, trying to get laid and high. That covers only 1 dimension of 'Dazed''s subject matter. And look at the talent pool in 'Dazed' as compared to 'Stoned Age'. Only Milla Jovovich and Joey Lauren Adams were KNOWN talents at the time. Now look at 'Stoned Age'; Taylor Negron, as some weak tribute or exploitation to/of 'Fast Times at Ridgemont High'. He hasn't been a hot pop-icon since the eighties, and I guarentee the most people under 30 don't even know who he is. Bradford Tatum has fizzled, having high points in 'Powder' and 'Periscope Down'. Micheal Kopelow has almost literally done nothing since this movie. Now, if you say "what about Clifton Collins", I'll say "Do you mean Clifton Gonzales Gonzales?" Who had change that name because he reaks as an actor? Tack was easily his best performance in any movie, and that was 11 years ago.
For anyone who doubts any of these points, just look to the voting. 15,279 voters give Dazed an average of 7.3. Less than a thousand voters, 968, and Stoned Age is at 5.6. The numbers say it all in this case.
