Only TNG movie that feels like a TNG MOVIE

I know a lot people think this movie is terrible, I don't think it's very good either but it had the most potential of all 4 TNG movies. For one the characters actually act like they did on the show, no one really acts too out of character, except maybe Data but the emotion chip explains that.

Production wise the Movie looks like a movie, it could have used a few more months of production to modify the sets a bit more and sort out the inconsistent uniforms, but otherwise it looks like a TNG Movie should. Shot by a great cinematographer.

The story is pretty weak , with weak villains and a horribly shoe-horned in crash and battle sequence. But it's also the movie that had the most potential to be big in scope had they taken the time to flesh out the script and waited a year to make the movie.

Everyone loves First Contact but for me while I enjoy watching the movie, it isn't a very good TNG movie, everyone acts out of character, the movie is fairly small in scope, and it feels like a first time director trying to emulate Aliens.

That's pretty much how i feel.

If they would have left out the TNG part entirely it could have stood on its own as a classic Trek movie of the series. I wouldn't have missed Picard, Riker, Data, Geordi or anyone else in the TNG world.

About the only thing I can agree with here is that this does feel like a big screen TNG episode with higher production values. However, I feel this way only because we're still on the Enterpirse-D, with the same sets and uniforms, with some progression.

I feel that Generations is the weakest of the TNG films in most every respect.

zero respect for this post.

You don't have to respect my opinion. You don't offer anything to dispute it though.

reply

I didn't have to. Helen Keller can see the post was void of substance.

reply

If my post/opinion was "void" of substance, I can only imagine how to define your wasted responses, and my wasted time dealing with them. Don't like what I have to offer? Great. Offer something in return or you're simply taking up space.

Shut up, troll.

Helen Keller can see the post was void of substance.
If Helen Keller fell over in the forest, would the two of yous argue about what actually happened?

I agree with you, that's what I like the most about this movie is it feels the most trekkie to me, the most like Star Trek should be. I watch it all the time because of that, I like First Contact but I'd watch this over that when given the choice. I love STTMP because that 1 out of the 6 feels the most trekkie to me as well. I didn't hate Insurrection or Nemesis but thought we could of done without Insurrection and had Nemesis as the 3rd movie and for the 4th movie would of loved to have seen a better send off.

After just watching the whole TNG series again, I realized how amazing the last episode "All good things" is! Seriously, they should have just made THAT one into a feature film, give it more budget - and bam: BEST TNG MOVIE EVER. In a way it's a feature anyway since it's a 90 minute episode.

reply

It's a good TV episode, especially as a finale. But not enough action for a big budget scifi movie.

I think they could have beefed up All Good Things had they had a feature film budget. At least the script for that movie was far better then whatever mess Generations ended up with.

Generations and Insurection both feel like really expensively made episodes. Generations much more so since it was largely the same sets and costumes, outside of some DS9 outfits and different lighting. They felt like they could have been episodes on the show. Take the enterprise b bit out, and it's more or less a regular episode.

While I believe that Insurrection is the worst TNG movie (the worst Star Trek movie overall, really), I would say that that one has a plot that fits the best with the TNG series.
While Generations is about captains teaming up to beat up the guy from Clockwork Orange, Insurrection is about Picard standing up for his values and defending an innocent world from corrupt politicians.
Bad movie, but very Star Trek.

None of the TNG motion pictures ever looked or felt like movies all of them including the best one "First Contact" were just one big TV special but with more expensive cameras and higher budget.

It's Paramount's fault they should have used the TV production staff as consultants instead they gave Rick Berman and his TV staff direct involvement with the movies.

It's the same mistake with ST:TMP when they allowed Roddenberry to do things his way with the script.
