The parts are better than the whole

This is the kind of movie that you see on cable and wonder "why so much hate?"

That's because there is a lot to like in the film,
The opening sequence is cheesy but Shatner is in fine form.
The introduction of the TNG crew on the original sailing ship The Enterprise is inspired.
Data and Geordi are great as usual together and you gotta love the Klingon sisters.

But the critics are right. The plot is forced and disjointed.
Its down right boring at times.

The beauty of watching a film like this on cable is that when I'm disinterested and I can check my email and post a message on IMDB. Oh! There is the Enterprise saucer crashing. " Brace for impact!" shouts Riker, Classic.

Back to my post.

Unlike in the theater I can just enjoy the good parts, ignore the rest and leave it wondering "why so much hate?"

So many good little things.

The TNG crew intro was amazing.
The location for the showdown (despite how it went) was like nothing we'd seen on Star Trek.
The saucer crash, one of the best action sequences in all of Star Trek.
I liked Picard and Kirk on horses, it's something that fit both characters well.

But it was all just kinda, meh, when all put together
