If this movie came out today.

There would have been a lot of shots where the bus was CGI. Guaranteed they would have used it when the bus takes off to clear the gap.

yep. cgi is such an amazing (lazy) and powerful (lazy) tool for filmmaking. everyone (no one) always loves it over practical effects.

REALLY jumping a bus.

I'd much rather MAKE movies, over make cgi cartoons instead. How boring sitting at a computer for weeks, verses setting up something to actually film!!!

reply

ACTUALLY...everyone (no one) always loves it over practical effects...IS CORRECT...MINUS THE (NO ONE) PART...

CGIS IS INDEED AN AMAZING AND POWERFUL TOOL AND SHOULD BE USED TO FEATHER THE EDGES OF PRACTICAL WORK...IN ESSENCE CGI OVER(THE TOP OF) PRACTICAL EFFECTS.

reply

Look how good that looked. And in the film they made it look like the bus flew in the air.

People slam CGI and act like filmmakers of pre-90 films would have chosen practical effects over CGI if they had the choice. No. In most cases they probably would have chosen CGI too, just like filmmakers today.

CGI is a tool. How effective it is depends on how well it’s utilized. Just like practical effects.

There are countless movies with crappy practical effects too.

Very true.

No idea why producers approve of such a poor CGI shot that looks so fake. There is so many examples I can think of from modern films. Even if they couldn't at the time make it practical then edit around that poor animation yet instead they still keep it in the cut...

It's amazing how technology has advanced and yet there is such a huge problem with bad CGI.
