How can anyone not like this movie?

There are no boring scenes. It's impossible not to like it.

reply

Right? Tight plot, good performances & well written. Fantastic, tense action film.

Also, I love its simplicity. Guy wants money or else he blows up bus. Simple as that.

I feel like if it was made/remade today, they would try to make it unnecessarily convoluted, "subvert expections" or some shit like that

reply

I like this movie too. If made today, the villain would probably be just some poor guy who hates the rich millionaires and billionaires for screwing him over. And the audience while not condoning his actions would be made to feel sorry for him because of how a guy like him can't get a decent job.

reply

Yeah, the audience has to say, "the villain was right" or "they had a point"

I don't mind making villains sympathetic but I feel like that's how almost every villains is done nowadays.

Oh, he/she is gonna murder a buttload of people but it's not their fault. It society's fault. It's not on them.

I always laugh when I remember that they made people root for Cruella. She's a dog murderer. But she's OK now, I guess.

reply

I didn't see Cruella for that reason. It's like that for about every Marvel comic adaptation too. I like the first Spider-Man movie but Norman Osborn being sympathetic and making the Green Goblin an alternate personality was a mistake. So was not adapting it faithfully so that Gwen is not in it and therefore not doing Green Goblin's story justice. It would have fixed all my complaints about Mary Jane in the 2nd and 3rd movies too.

reply

That's the MAIN thing I disliked about MCU Spidey. He was almost always in Iron Man's shadow.

Heck, even his villains were people that Stark wronged. Hated that almost everything about this Spider-man had to do with Tony Stark in one way or another.

That's why I'm looking forward to Tom Holland's next/new trilogy. We've finally gotten a "clean slate" of sorts.

reply

I agree with you a bit. I'm hoping Black Cat is the love interest in the next movie. She's passed due for being in a Spidey movie.

reply

I still loved the films (for the most part), I just hated that aspect. That's all.

One of the things I loved about the first 2 MCU Spidey films is that they gave us characters/villains we hadn't seen on the big screen before. In terms of live action.

Mysterio & Vulture were great. Hope they continue that trend with the likes of Black Cat, Tombstone, Scorpion(in his suit this time) & Silver Sable to name a few

reply

i dont like it because it is like one long action scene, there is little depths or character developments.

it is mediocre. entertaining film, yes, but it lack substance.

reply

Wrong.

reply

I think that's completely fair. If a movie is just one elongated scene, it's going to get a little tedious unless that's something you are willing to put up with.
And watching just Keanu, Bullock and Hopper the whole time isn't exactly an acting tour de force either.
It's a pretty shallow film, but fun, I guess.

reply

Ugh! If you want all that stick to dramas. You remind me of a cousin who said he didn't like Terminator 2 for the same reason. Said cousin hates action films too. I have nothing against dramas but if you really want good character development and so called substance as you and my cousin call it, stay away from all action films.

reply

i love action film. arnies, slys, broose willis, dolf lundgrens, JCDV, Stephen Seagull. i love all their film.

difference between their action film and speed, is that speed does not have any character in it. character is backseat to action in speeds. while character is dominating faktor in arnie, sly etc movies.

reply

I don't know that I agree with that. There really isn't that much character arc or character development happening in Commando and Red Heat. I like those movies a lot though.

Also I would argue the original First Blood novel has way better character development than the movie did. Teasle and Gault were ruined in the movie imo.

reply

there is not a lot of character depths in arnie/sly film, but at least there is something, even if it is small. sometime you can say a lot with little.

in speed, whole movie is about gimmicks of bus on loose. it is gimmick film. no substance. like jurassic parks - take away the CGIs and it is nothing film!
