No one seems too bothered about the opening bus explosion?


It's barely mentioned afterwards. Jack seems to have forgotten about it and there is no indication of the body count. Poor writing.

Yeah, they could've spent slightly more time on that part.

I think it would have fucked with the pacing of the movie if they dwelled on that, there was no time, the clock was ticking on the next bus.

I agree with “davodikum”. Immediately after the bus exploded, Payne calls the pay phone next to the coffee shop. Jack answers the phone and realizes two things:
1) Payne is still alive
2) Payne planted a bomb on a bus in the city with the intention of playing a game with Jack to get him to try and defuse it.

Immediately after this phone call Jack rushes to his car and speeds off to find the bus. If the movie spent extra time on the previous bus explosion the pacing of the movie would have been off.
