Homeage to Miami Vice?

I've always thought Warner Bros. was paying homeage to Miami Vice in this movie. This movie came out 10 years after Miami Vice 1st airred in 1984. The Miami setting and plot of taking down the drug king pin is just like Vice, minus the vigilante element. Also the overall style and atmosphere is pretty Vice-like along with the soundtrack including Miami Sound Machine or Gloria Esteban. Another little thing that possibly only I would notice is the 1964 Cadillac convertible the dealer is blown up in; it's exactly the same as the one Tubbs drove in Miami Vice.

It's possible, but sometimes people automatically think of Miami Vice. The culture, music, Art Deco, etc IS Miami. It was showed well in Miami Vice, so the background would be apart of any movie as it was in Miami Vice.

The movie felt more like the TV show than the actual Miami Vice movie did!

it does have a MV vibe like the guy above says it feels more like MV than the 2006 remake movie. I half expect Crocket and Tubbs to turn up to one of the aftermaths of Rays explosions.

I bet the actors felt pretty cool like they were in a big budget Miami Vice..

also has elements of Scarface (obviously as its set in Miami and has the same house) and Bond (John Barry)
