In Trivia it says that Steven Seagal was offered a chance to star and direct but wanted 9 million for it and that the studio didn't want to pay that much. In Sylvester's "Read More" capability it says that he got 15 million for it.

I don't feel Seagal (even though he was In his prime at the time) would be very suited to this film.
