I wish he would have saved himself- did not understand ending

Does he die.

Technically no, but what I think she meant was Jimmy couldn't get out from under his addictions and self loathing and they took over his life. It's so sad because I think he had the potential to be a great guy and could have won Billie over without resorting to raping and abusing her. They could have been so happy.

The above poster has some very good points. Jim was self-destructive, self-absorbed, abusive, and mentally ill. He could not overcome these things, and Billie knew that and also that these things would likely destroy him at some point.

"I'd say this cloud is Cumulo Nimbus."
"Didn't he discover America?"
"Penfold, shush."

i wondered that too... cause if he kept drinking after his kidney transplant he wouldnt have made it long..

and also, she said that she was glad that he still spent time with Katie.. what about the other two kids they had?? hes only interested in the kid that resulted from the rape but not the two he made in wedlock??

I just watched the movie and came here to mention the same thing about Jim spending time with Katie, yet not mentioning his other children. It was strange.
