How dare they defile Silas Marner!

Silas Marner is a classic novel. My grandmother read it as a child and remembers it today. How in the hell does the media even dare to turn such a classic novel into a cheap cutesty film for sh*ts and giggles!
George Eliot must be turning in her grave.

Oh my god!! Everybody run and scream!!! HOLLYWOOD USED A BOOK AS THE BASIS FOR A MOVIE!!!! NOOOOOOOOO! Eliot is not turning in her grave. She would be most excited that someone with talent decided to breathe some fresh life into this incredibly overdone story. Please don't see 10 Things I Hate About You, My Own Private Idaho, O, King of Texas, or Rozencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead. These were all based on work from a writer that makes Eliot look like a child writing her first book report.

Yes, Shakespeare is a great author but George Eliot is too.

I read the elliot book when I was in high School twice--it was boring-- I Thought they did a good job with this, followed the story line very well, Steve Martin did a very good job

After stumbling on this site in a search for material that I may want to teach, I am highly entertained. While I am a passionate reader that cringes a little when I see film versions of my favorite books release, a part of me, the English teacher part, thinks hmmm....they might do a good job. See To Kill a Mockingbird, Of Mice and Men or any of the other movies mentioned by guldenstern5. It does my students good to learn that film can be read as well and if Steve Martin can sell them Marian Evans aka George Eliot, then more power to him. As an afterthought, there weren't many sh*ts and giggles in the film. It wasn't exactly King Tut does Eliot.

Don't knock it. I had never read "Silas Marner" but this film made me remedy that situation.
