I remember in the begining of this movie, the autistic boy (I think his name was Timmy) had a fit because there were peas on his plate. Then I remember that his sister said that he doesn't like things that are round. It it ever explained why he doesn't like things that are round? I havent seen this for a good ten years and my memory is kind of fuzzy.

shareI know this is old but I think she was referring to the movie itself. Why bring up peas/round thing aversion in the movie at all? Clearly he had many symptoms. Why was that particular one mentioned?
Anyway, why not just say it's a symptom of Asperger Syndrome?
People with aspergers can pass for neurotypical (normal). Aspergers is very very high functional. Many men don't get the diagnosis until they are in their 50's. They are awkward, can't socialize very well. The child in this movie does not represent any aspergers. He is on the spectrum but at the other end. He's severely autistic. Autism can present differently in many people (mostly male children). But this particular child had savant capabilities.
Many celebrities have Aspergers. Just google and you will see. I believe Dan
Ackroyd was once diagnosed with Aspergers. And Angie Dickinison's late daughter (who committed suicide) also had Aspergers.
