Meeting Mr. Argueta

In December, 2002, I met Mr. Luis Argueta when he brought The Silence of Neto to The University of Oklahoma, Norman. I helped coordinate the screening for the Modern Languages Department of O.U. We were not sure what kind of media that Mr. Argueta was going to bring. Everybody was hoping for DVD, especially the projectionist. He pulled up with his faculty escort and sure enough, he lugged 6 cans of film all the way from Guatemala. I was delighted because that is my preferred way to view a good film. Mecham Hall only has a horizontal platter so it took about 20 minutes for the projectionist to splice it together. The director of the Film and Video program decided to conduct a question and answer session for Mr. Argueta. He was a hit and a delight with the crowd of film and modern language students. The film ran and then Mr. Argueta spoke about the production and his experiences. I did video of this event and like to look back on it now and then. I also got the honor of interviewing Mr. Argueta the next day at the bed and breakfast where he was staying. I met him at the Montfort Inn near downtown Norman, Ok. He spoke for about 45 minutes then I left him to get ready for a busy two days of meetings, tours, and parties.
I now lead a much different life and career than that time period. I may never be able to meet him again since I am in television. If you get a chance to see him in person, please do so. You will not be dissapointed.
