This film is like being trapped in School..

..you remember the dirty school buildings, the bullies, the wankers, the few mates and crazy people from inner city schools? Shopping reminds me of those horrible days. People stepping over each other to be the best, the hate people had for each other, and themselves, the maddening authority stamping on everyone, the sheer hopeless pointlessness of it all, the lengths people go to to escape it..

Shopping reminds me of all of it. Damaged people still doing their thing because they don't know any better and don't care, wankers turning into gangsters, bullies turning into psychos or ending up dead, decent people warped into shadows of themselves. The hate of love, the apathy to everything, it's all there, just instead of the playground and school walls it's the larger institution: society, the city, the people. The rules and the damage and the desperate escapism and elitism is all the same.

Billy's yearning for danger and to be the best, the coppers and the ineffectual law, Tommy and his criminal ideals, it's all just like the worst days at the worst schools.. days so bad you get into the bad things to make them good, and give a little piece of yourself away each time.

Horrible, twisted, beautiful film. If you were in a bad school you'll know most the characters.. but you wont like them. Well worth a watch.
