Remake?

Does anyone know if this is a remake from Inagaki's "47 ronin"?

I have always considerated the 62 version one of the most beautiful movies ever made.

How is the 94 version compared with the 62 version? Which is better?

P.S. From Kon Ichikawa I've only seen "Phoenix", and I've got to say WTF!!!????
Hope that Shijushichinin no shikaku doesn't seem like Phoenix

Try the 1941 Mizoguchi version: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0033654/

the story of the 47 ronin is true tale from japans history.
there has been at least 80 feature film versions of it made in japan, as well as television, manga, anime, kabuki, etc.

The 1962 version is much better. It has more detail and makes things clearer. I also recommend the 1958 version, THE LOYAL 47 RONIN, which I've reviewed on IMDB. It lays out the sequence of events with the best clarity of any version I've seen. There's also a good 1978 version directed by Kinji Fukasaku, THE FALL OF AKO CASTLE, which I've also reviewed here, but it's more action-oriented than most.

The 1994 version leaves out a lot and tells the story in a more oblique and elliptical way. Which is fine for some viewers but you need to really be very familiar with the story first.
