Hadley wasn't much of a singer.

He promised to sing lullabies to the prisoners who were not having a good first night at Shawshank, but no matter how much he bragged about them, were nothing more than a basic thumping with a club on a round object like a skull. He kept a pretty good beat admittedly but there were no vocals whatsoever.

You’re not looking at it logically. The prisoners were a tad far away and might not have heard him well enough. The prisoner who was right up close fell asleep instantly.
I think the lullaby was pretty darn good in that sense.

He was the father of Tony Hadley, lead singer of Spandau Ballet.

Spandau Ballet? Hmmm.. given the choice of hearing Byron or Tony sing to me, I gotta admit I'd choose Byron's lullaby..
