Brilliant idea for a sequel

22 years later we catch up with Andy and Red who now run a boat/raft building business on the shoreline.

What neither of them know is that the warden had a brother who is hell bent on revenge as he blames Andy for his brother's suicide.

Much of the film is the warden's twin brother putting the pieces of the puzzle together to determine Andy's whereabouts. When he manages to track Andy down, he arrives under the pretence of wanting to buy a boat. Red is suspicious with his mannerisms and way of talking but Andy rebutts him and acts pleasant towards him

He convinces Andy and Red to join him on taking his new boat for a test run as he's a beginner and nervous to go by himself. While sailing, he deliberately heads out to sea until they're too far from coastline.

The second act of the film shifts to a psychological thriller. Andy and Red THINK it was a beginner's mishap but they're still suspicious of this dude.

Eventually Red believes he knows who the guy is, tells Andy who still isn't convinced. Eventually though Andy also agrees. The third act consists of Andy and Red overcoming this guy but sadly Red is mortally wounded.

He dies in Andy's arms. Andy manages to overcome the guy and heads back to the coast (freedom) with Red's body

What is that thing you're using?.... It's technical.

Go ahead, dude, pitch it to a studio, maybe you'll get lucky. Call it "Shawshank Revenge."

There are a few things wrong with your idea.

Even if the brother is a fraternal twin, he still may look like the warden and Red and Andy should see that right away.

Andy really covered his tracks well and I'm sure that Red did to. I don't see how they could be tracked down.
There was no evidence left behind that suggested Andy and Red are in Mexico.

Andy and Red were not running a boat/raft building business.
Even if they were, do boat dealers go out with customers on their boats? Andy and Red would probably suggest a boating class for the new owner to take.

So Andy kills a guy who is wrong for wanting revenge? That isn't right.

This movie stands just fine on it's own and doesn't need a sequel.

reply

exactly, Andy had enough money to lie a very happy life, especially in Mexico on a random beach.

reply

trash.

reply

Brilliant? Not so much. Don't quit your day job, gorman.

Sounds great!
Casting suggestions:
Andy: Larry David
Red: Bill Cosby
Norton's twin: R. Lee Emrey, Danny Trejo, or Steve Buscemi

reply

No.
Casing suggestions would be, and only could be:
Andy: Tim Robbins
Red: Morgan Freeman.

reply

Worst idea for a sequel ever.

reply

If it's 22 years later, wouldn't Red be close to 90?

reply

thats great , but I think it needs a little more pep.....
