shareBoggs certainly wasn't funny and lovable, but then Red said he wasn't homosexual either, just a predator. I can't speak for Boggs, but there's no way on God's green Earth would I have sex with a male under any condition. Boggs wasn't gay? To me he and the sisters were.
Anyway, one of my favorite scenes of Shawshank is when Captain Hadley grabs Boggs by the leg and drags him out of his cell and beats the snot out of him. I know one shouldn't cheer for the torture of another but I did just the same!

No, Boggs probably wasn't gay, more of a nasty predator who willingly let go all of his inhibitions because he probably had a lot of prison time to face. He needed a thrill, there was no woman, and maybe got so frustrated that he would screw any sex. I have an opinion that gay/lesbian people are born that way- not that that would stop a straight male (or female for that matter) venturing outside the box if some of them are faced with sexual oppression. The problem is that I HATED Boggs's character.. He could of kept his sexual gratification to himself and the "sisters" instead of inflicting it on poor Andy. And yes, I truly enjoyed the scene where Hadley beats the absolute sh!t out of Boggs. Justice was served!
