how is this so overrated?

I expected an actually decent movie after seeing this kind of rating and all the reviews!

It's better than anything else Danny Boyle has made. *shrugs*

After Trainspotting, 28 Days Later, Slumdog Millionaire, and 127 Hours, that's a truly ridiculous statement to make.

reply

Why is it ridiculous? It's just an opinion. I didn't like any of the films you mentioned. I don't like Danny Boyle and think "Shallow Grave" is the only film he's made that's any good.

reply

I'd have to agree with you somewhat. Although I did like Trainspotting a lot, I thought Shallow Grave was Boyles best work.

It's not.

I'll tell you in another life when we are both cats.

This was a turning point in British cinema, where it challenge American thrillers with great bravery and verve. It was one of the first films that made me understand film as an art form. A superb script, very we'll directed and great performance from the leads.

You have evidently never heard of "Get Carter" (1971) or "The Long Good Friday" (1980), both far better and more influential films.

Anyway, I do not see why a European film should be evaluated by comparing it to American movies. Each tradition has its own strengths. I would not judge "Lincoln" (2012) by whether it matches up to BBC costume dramas.

reply

Over rated? Lol - If it wasn't for the success of this SUPERB piece of work, you wouldn't have any other of Danny Boyles films.
Next ridiculous comment please!

It's not only what its shown, but the way Boyle/Hodge played with ours expectations & morals without using any lowbow or cheesiness not even sympathetic carachters!

It makes you questions a lot things about yourself, it is powerful cinema.
