This Film needs a reboot...

Who agrees?

I agree :-)

110%. I'd love to see what could be done with the character today, but I really liked this film & I'd be concerned that they get a reboot just right because, in my mind, it would be tough to live up to this one.

reply

Agree? No, ABSOLUTELY AGREE AND NEED A REBOOT.

Honestly, it would be a fantastic time to do a reboot movie, a netflix series, something. It would nicely stand apart from the recent movies by being a period piece noir.

There's so much that can be done with the property that I'm actually sad there hasn't been anything new done with it.

I would definitely follow the Baldwin Film's direction of a blend of the Pulp and Radio series in terms of his powers. They can be done creatively with a lower budget, but he doesn't need to use them every episode.

I'd love to see it handled as a NETFLIX series.

It might be controversial to fans but I also think they need to bring it into modern times. I was a big fan of the late 80's comics started by Howard Chaykin & continued by Andy Helfer. There was wicked humor punctuated by violence and it had plenty of supporting characters that would be perfect for a long form series. I think this is the best chance for pulling THE SHADOW out of the cobwebs and making him the relevant exciting character he once was and not just a throwback to a bygone era of pulps & radio shows.

Just watching it on syfy channel now and was thinking the same thing. Loved this movie as a kid and it's still great but would be good to see a new shadow.

reply

As much as I liked this film, I'd like to see a reboot made, but still as another movie. I'd also like to see it take place in current times. I just think it would be an interesting take on the character.

reply

They would probably ruin it by setting it in the present day.

Do NOT take The Shadow out of the 40s. I have a section of my movie library devoted to action flicks set in the 30s and 40s: The Shadow, The Phantom, Indy Jones, The Rocketeer. Those decades had a literal style and pizzazz and manner our modern era cannot even imagine. The clothes and music were as good as it gets. The Nazis provided a protagonist presence second only to, and in league with, Satan. Moving The Shadow into today’s world would castrate and bastardize the narrative and its atmosphere. I’m pretty sure that Netflix wouldn’t understand that. I am very underwhelmed by their series. I also think Netflix’ target demo is too immature to appreciate The Shadow. “Lamont Cranston?! C’mon! Dude! What kin’of name is Lamont?!”

reply

I agree. The setting is really important to the whole mythos of this character.

reply

Absolutely.

reply

Two thumbs up! But it doesn't necessarily have to be in the theatres. A quality miniseries would work for me. My only dread is that somebody like Seth Rogen comes along and wrecks it like he did with Green Hornet.

reply

Disagree. They'll try to make the Shadow either too brooding or too snarky.
