finding her skin

i thought there was a scene in this movie where the selkie finds her skin in the
attic runs to the water puts it on and enters the water. can anyone tell if this right?

reply

I have never seen that. the daughter asks her mother the selkie "why does father keep a seals skin hidden in the attick?" then you see her run toward the house I think and it cuts to the father rowing home and the seal fallowing him...which we are to assume is his wife after she transformed. Some times i think movies had scenes in them that didn't really exist because my imagination had seen it so clearly.

reply

That was when the selkie left her children and husband. She was captured one day in a moment of time when seals can shed their skin and sun on the rocks looking like human women. If you steal her seal skin she will stay with you. The voice over says that she had been a good wife and mother but her daughter comes to the beach and says something like "why does father keep a wallet in the roof". She was never human, just captured, and kept. She fled. She went back to what she was. A seal. A Selkie.

Actually, I do remember a scene like that - she peeks in a cupoard and pulls the skin out. I was wondering what happened to that scene too. Maybe they removed it from the movie?

reply

I just saw the film last night and I didn't see that scene. Must have been removed.

reply

Yeah I saw it today and there was no such scene.

reply

i dont get why they would remove that scene, i cant really remember details of the film too well coz i saw it when it first came out, but that particular part stuck in my head! i guess because it was such a turning point in the film! weird that they've taken it out! im gonna buy this dvd i really need to see it again, my memory is all over the place

reply

i saw this movie in my myth class and that scene was in it.

reply

I saw this on the big screen somewhere between 7-9 times and there was never a scene of a cupboard where the skin was kept. My DVD doesn't have it either. It must have been a very limited release that was viewed w/ that clip in it; perhaps for specific countries?

reply

I saw it the other night, and the line is "Why does father keep a leather coat in the roof?"

reply

That's the same line on my DVD.

The version I rented about two years after the movie came out had the scene where she finds her skin, but it is missing from the DVD.

We're watching this move in my human geography class and that scene wasn't in it.

When I either rented the videocassette (!) or saw it on cable (can't remember which, that far back) there was definitely a scene where she finds her skin. I was surprised to find it missing from the DVD.
