I've seen this movie several times and did anyone else notice the parrallels of this movie to king kong. Like finding an unbelievable wonder in a remote area of the world. Brendon Fraisers freak out with all the cameras. and Brendon Fraiser climbing to the top of the stadium in the end of the movie. Was this something sublte or was it in plain view and im just an idiot.

Al was watching 'king kong' in his motel room in the beginning of the movie as well, particularly the scene where kong is introduced on stage in his cage, freaking out
shareAt the end of the movie when they were on the roof of Yankee Stadium, when Brendan Fraser is about to climb down the stairs, Albert Brooks even says "King Kong wouldn't take the stairs" then points to the chopper.
shareIs the original poster here serious?? Were the King Kong references really that subtle to you? At the beginning of the movie he watches King Kong, and gets excited that it is the original. He refers to Fraser several times as "Kong." I mean, seriously, this wasn't below the surface kind of thing. The director went all out with the King Kong references, they were pretty much in your face. You would have to be blind no to notice them.
If you can't spot the sucker in the first half hour at the table, then you ARE the sucker.
Don't have a source for this so you people can take it for what it is, but it was my impression that everything in the movie was leading up to a dramtic climax (just like King Kong) with Brendan Fraiser or Albert Brooks (don't remember which) actually jumping or them getting into a physical confrontation and one of them is thrown off the roof. I remember hearing that the studio hated it and it tested incredibly poorly so it was changed to sugary, happy and absolutely ridiculous 81 pitch performance. It would've changed the whole feel of the movie, but it would have been much better IMO and seem to fit along with the entire direction of the film.

I agree and was actually going to say this. I last saw The Scout more than 15 years ago and I remember all of the references to King Kong. I saw the thread title and immediately heard Albert Brooks saying, "I found Kong!"
