This was a terrible movie

I thought this movie was really bad. Anyone else?

No. I saw it for the first time on TV this morning, and I thought it was great. Loved the cast! The family dynamics was an interesting one. I found it compelling. The more I watched, the more I wanted to know about this family and the kid in the service, and if he was alright.
What was it that you did`nt like about it?

reply

anything with Jason London in it is worth a look. Although he was not in this that much.

Nope I really liked it and also the book.

at first i thought it was boring, but i went back a second time and was compelled by the characters and i liked the script...and i kinda felt for this family that was brought together again in a time of chaos, tradgedy/unknown!

Now, i REALLY like this movie!

I'm with you on this, Chara_Angel. I hated this film for about three-fourths of it, but it grew on me by the end. It's at times overwrought, overambitious and overplayed, but hey, that's life. Not a perfect film, but a solid 6/10 in my book. Maybe I'll upgrade if I watch it again.

:) It's really one of those quiet films... I think other movies that remind me of this are Whats Eating Gilbert Grape, and Revolutionary Road...because it's all about the emotions of everyone...and family/relationship dynamic.

Now, It's one of my classicly loved films in my collection... probably not for everyone though.

My mom for instance hates it...she's more into action and period films...I'm all about family and drama ^_^

Anyways, glad I'm not the only one who can appreciate it :D

Interesting that your mother is into action and period films, which are two very different genres.

I'm all over the map when it comes to movies, but I generally find someone to like about everything I see. "Gilbert Grape" and "Revolutionary Road" were excellent comparisons here. I think of this like "chamber dramas" like "The Ice Storm" with Sigourney Weaver and "Life as a House" with Kevin Kline.

Well, I guess a better example of movies my mom likes would be something like... "Elizabeth" or "Troy"...Things about war and stuff like that xD

I've never heard of The Ice Storm or Life As A House...but I'll definitely have to check them out! Thanks for the examples/movie ideas :)

Funny you used the word "quiet." I also like "quiet" films, including "Gilbert Grape," which - like it or not - showcased an amazingly talented Leo DiCaprio. Have you seen "The Trip to Bountiful," (for which Geraldine Page FINALLY won an Oscar after being nominated EIGHT times), "The Man in the Moon," a Sam Waterston film which introduced the world to the force that would become Reese Witherspoon (who was unbelievable even at age 11 - 12), "The Far Side of Heaven" - about a Mormon missionary in the South Pacific in the 30s - 40s, "Breaking Away," which was one of those movies that MUST have been a hard pitch to a studio, but turned out to be a classic? How about "Paris, Texas" or "Come Back to the Five and Dime, Jimmy Dean, Jimmy Dean?" "Mrs. Claremont at the Palfrey?" "The Secret of Roan Irish?" "Fly Away Home?" "Winter's Bone" (which gave us the force that would become Jennifer Lawrence? "Paper Moon," for which Tatum O'Neal remains the youngest person ever awarded an Oscar? "My Brother's Keeper?" All off the top of my head. There are also many excellent documentaries that you should see (not all documentaries are of the Michael Moore variety). HBO used to show documentaries in the middle of the night as a time filler, and I saw some really fantastic ones if I couldn't sleep (don't know if they do that any more).
