This is listed as a TV movie but...........

This is listed as a TV movie but they used the "F" word, was this a cable movie made for HOB or Showtime?

reply

Yes, Showtime. It was originally intended to be a theatrical release movie, but the filmmakers could not raise enough money in the budget to make it one, and make it the way it should have been made. However, what they did make was very well done, even on a much lower budget. Bravo! It was one of Showtime Cable TV's highest-rated movies ever.

No, it was originally intended for an HBO movie but HBO backed out at the last minute and almost ruined it. Luckily, Showtime snatched it up.

No, I know the producer, Paul Davids, and he told me it was planned as a theatrical release from the start, but since they couldn't raise enough working capital to make it as a theatrical feature, they then went to the Cable TV networks, since they already had big names involved. They had already cast Martin Sheen and Kyle McLachlan, and they didn't want them to back out, and their first offer was from HBO, which fell thru, so they went for the offer from Showtime to do it as a Cable-TV movie instead, just so they could get the film made the way they wanted it, telling as much of the truth about the actual Roswell story as possible.

If that were the case, it wouldn't have made for a very compelling story.
