Hey, I've been trying to find out if this is the movie I've seen on t.v. or VHS probably ten or so years ago.

Do the aliens look like reptiles? Are flamethrowers ever used to kill the human and then the alien comes out? Does it ever take place in NY or on fire escapes, and is there a scene in a court room where someone is killed while trying to kill the alien?

Sorry, dude. That doesn't sound like this movie. I don't recall a courtroom scene at all, nor flamethrowers, nor NY or fire escapes. :(

yeah, I just watched it. It was okay, but I don't think it was the movie I was thinking of. I definately remember flamethrowers used to kill the host and then the aliens. That's the key.

The film you're thinking of is "The Hidden".

"Your mother's in here with us."

You are describing what sounds like "The Hidden." The courtroom may have been the auditorium where the flamethrower finale takes place.
There is a fight on an old department store with fire escapes and the roof has a NY tenement look to it. The lead(Kyle McLochlan)is shot after he burns the alien controlled politician.
