is this movie related @ all to invasion of the body snatchers?
because I recall seeing this and it's similar in vein to invasion of the body snatchers.

It's a very similar theme. The film Invasion of the Body Snatchers was probably inspired by Heinlein's book.

I thought so too!
I honestly had forgotten that I had seen "The Puppet Masters" on TV.
I didn't like it.
I also didn't like the 70's version of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers," either.
I honestly thought I'd like BOTH movies, but I disliked them both & I love sci-fi horror movies, but those movies were just NOT that good.

Yeah, the Puppet Masters film just isn't that good. I don't mind them moving the setting to the "present day" too much - especially since the original book was set in 2007 and Heinlein just got his prognostications about future technology dead wrong.
But getting rid of the alien ship... replacing it with some sort of "hive"... just silly. And the story was so much smaller than Heinlein's - he had a good half of the US infested, in a war that lasted months. Would far rather have seen that movie.
